Introduction to Directing with Richard Carroll

Richard Carroll is a director, writer and producer based in Sydney. In 2020, he directed a new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! for Black Swan State Theatre Co, and The Boy, George, a one-person show starring comedian Joel Creasey. In 2019 he directed Monty Python’s Spamalot at Hayes Theatre Co, and Once at Darlinghurst Theatre Co and Merrigong Theatre Co. Monty Python’s Spamalot toured Australia in 2020. Once will return to Darlinghurst Theatre Company for another season in 2021, followed by a tour.

In this workshop, Richard gives a crash course in some fundamentals of directing for the theatre. 

What will be covered:

  • Choosing a show
  • Conceptualising your production
  • Meeting and working with other creatives
  • Auditioning and casting
  • And more!

Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas for productions they are planning to or would like to direct, so that they can ask questions and come up with practical ideas.

Date/Time: Saturday 12 February, 10AM - 1PM

  • Morning tea and tea/coffee/water will be provided.

Who can attend:

  • Those who are interested in learning the fundamentals of Directing
  • Minimum age 15 years - all ages.
